The Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre is proud to bring you the
23rd Annual Concerto Festival
as a virtual concert.
Our symphony orchestra, conducted by Liam Burden, will accompany 8 young soloists in an
exciting programme that varies from JC Bach to Kabalevsky.
This virtual concert will be streamed live via
Quicket on 4 December 2020 at 20:00,
and will remain available for viewing until 6 December 2020.

Mikhaila, a keen chamber musician, has attended the Franschhoek Chamber Music Workshop as well as the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival. In 2019 she won the Junior Section of the Johann Vos Music Competition and was the runner-up at the Pieter Kooij Competition. Mikhaila won the prize for the Best Baroque Performance at the Pieter Kooij Competition this year.

Starting with violin lessons in 2013 and commencing with viola lessons in 2018, Helga has passed all her violin exams with distinction and was awarded a trophy for her performance at the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod in 2017.

Janine participated in the SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition in 2018 and the Mini Maestros Competition in 2017 and 2018. She is a member of the Hugo Lambrechts Senior Wind Band and Symphony Orchestra.

In 2019 Kian was a finalist at the SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition, and he was awarded the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre trophy as the Best Junior. This year he was a finalist at the Pieter Kooij Competition, and the overall winner of the Mini Maestros Competition. Kian has been placed on the Unisa Roll of Honour for all his Unisa Music examinations.

Emma was the runner-up (Strings) at the SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition in 2019. She has received numerous medals at the Stellenbosch and Helderberg Eisteddfodau over the years, as string player and pianist, respectively. Emma has performed as a soloist with several orchestras and is a member of the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra.

Ying-Shan often appears as a guest artist for mass choirs and other events. She was a South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod national finalist where she won the provincial competition in the soprano category and received the trophy for the Best Western Cape Soloist. In 2019 she performed with the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra featuring on both Voice and Piano.

In 2018 James won the Junior Woodwind Section of the Stellenbosch Eisteddfod and was selected as the Best Junior at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre. In 2019 he was the runner-up at the SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition, the runner-up in the Piccolo Section of the Johann Vos Music Competition, and the overall winner of the Mini Maestros Music Competition. James received the 2019 Student of the Year award from the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre.

Vivianna has been a prize winner at various eisteddfodau and as a chamber musician attended both the Franschhoek Chamber Music Workshop and Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival. She was awarded the prize for the Best Romantic Performance and received the overall second prize at the Pieter Kooij Competition this year, and has also been selected as a soloist for the Westerford Concerto Festival.
